PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: It's a mistake not to be responsive to the new generation and how they communicate. Our idea is not just about books, but all the arts. Our job is to stimulate the mind, ears, and eyes. We must create a library environment that is equivalent to the comfort of ones home. No more shhh, shhh or no snacks or beverages allowed. We have even decided to provide intercom music to soothe andrelax our patron's minds as they navigate our abundant resources.
Professional Development is indispensable, it allows organizations an opportunity to stay abreast of the latest technology and relationship among customer and service. This form of training has influenced NCPL staff to become more stress free, customer service oriented, Professional, accountable, resourceful, and committed.
TYPING ROOM: Despite the influx of computer technology, NCPL continues to have patrons requesting the usage of the old dependable typewriter. Therefore, we developed a space for this often requested service in November 2003.
QUIET ROOM: Not every patron desires the mind soothing and relaxing music that is softly traveled throughout NCPL's intercom system. Therefore, we have provided a soft quieter and conservative atmosphere.
Snacks : Think about all the nibbling that goes on in between meals. America's penchant for sugar and snacking may contribute to a more tolerable environment. NCPL have introduced a combination of sodas, chips, candies, coffee, cappuccino, and bottled water to assist in making our customers at ease. Of course, the additions of chips, pretzels and popcorn aren't the only ways to ease various stressing levels, but it sure is a start.
Therefore, the next time you visit NCPL, stop by our snack room at the entrance. Eat a snack and enjoy your visit. Thanks for patronizing with the North Chicago Public Library.
